The Founder and President of Entrena, John originally came to the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps Volunteer in 1971. He and his wife, Sobeya, launched Entrena in 1982, as a local Dominican firm specializing in training, education, and development. John’s areas of expertise include cultural management, public-private sector partnerships, consortia and alliance building, sustainable development, and resource linkage. Under John's direction and a highly motivated qualified staff, Entrena maintains an excellent reputation for creativity and accomplishing tasks with professional results in the Dominican Republic.
Effectively managing human resources at Entrena since the start of the company, Sobeya handles recruiting, hiring, training, and monitoring of an outstanding staff, a cornerstone to the success of Entrena. Strongly identified with social justice issues, Sobeya remains busy with different volunteer activities that go back to her days in high school when she organized evening literacy schools for workers.

Saschia is currently Chief of Party of the USAID supported Alerta Joven project, managing a $22,000,000 budget over 7 years with 30 large sub-grants, 23 implementing partners, 150,000 direct beneficiaries, and multiple public-private alliances. Alerta Joven is considered a model in reducing levels of violence and criminality in the Dominican Republic for at-risk youth between the ages of 11-24. With a MA degree in Education, Saschia has spearheaded all major educational initiatives for Entrena, designed the Espacio para Crecer model, and successfully introduced accelerated learning through QLN in Latin America. She is the recipient of numerous recognitions and has received advanced training in USAID project management, rules, and regulations.
Born in the Dominican Republic with Dominican and American parents, his passion is showcasing the fascinating culture of the Dominican Republic with respect to cuisine, music and historical traditions. He studied Culinary Arts in Buenos Aires, Seattle, and Chicago. He facilitates travel programs by accompanying students/travelers, with a zest for exploration and adventure. John Paul has developed state of the art community based culinary programs which train community chefs, introduces participants the DR culture through food, and meets the international standards for culinary services offered by cruise lines.
Agusmery has provided administrative support to Entrena since 2007 for internationally financed projects as well as in-house initiatives. Through her attention to detail, she plays a leadership role the management of support staff, purchasing, scheduling, and follow-up for personnel issues with the Department of Human Resources. Agusmerys holds a BS degree in Accounting.
Altagracia is constantly on the move as the Field Coordinator for Baseball Cares, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating activities. Her ability to form meaningful relationships with communities, schools, and young people has allowed her years of experience working alongside various projects, including Alerta Joven, to effectively carry out objectives related to entrepreneurship, labor insertion, reduction of crime and violence, and sexual health. Altagracia is a valued member of the team, with a degree in Marketing, and certified in Quantum Learning and various IT courses.
Born and raised in Michigan, Dani applies her US background in the DR to design and manage international development projects at Entrena, carrying out high quality implementation from planning to evaluation. Dani is also the primary interface with universities and travel agencies for study and travel abroad, and internships. With a dual degree in Business Management and Spanish Language, and prior experience working with the Dominican government and international and local institutes on language programs, Dani is passionate about connecting cultures through education.
Diana is an accomplished trainer in accelerated learning programs using Quantum Learning, Super Camps, and the Espacio para Crecer model. She has a degree in Psychology and is completing her Master’s in Education. With over 11 years of experience working alongside community based NGOs in education, social development, and children’s rights advocacy, Diana has carried out Entrena services in the Dominican Republic, Panama, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Paraguay. She also upholds Entrena’s high standards for M&E throughout the education programs, and is specialized in implementation of the EGRA model.
Elizabeth is the Operations Manager for the Alerta Joven project providing quality assurance, troubleshooting, and follow up in the areas of grant management, accounting, reporting, contracts, and audits. Prior to joining Entrena in 2012, Elizabeth worked in management and finances for the NGOs Childfund and Food for the Hungry. Elizabeth holds a Master degree in Business Administration and is a certified CPA and auditor. She has received USAID training in Rules and Regulations and Recipient Contracted Audit Programs.
Erielba has worked with Entrena in the Alerta Joven project since 2014. As the principal Technical Specialist in charge of employment insertion and entrepreneurship, Erielba interfaces with the Dominican private sector for first time employment, internships, identification of emerging workforce skills and connections with participating NGOs. Prior to joining Entrena, Erielba worked with the Dominican Ministry of Labor in an IADB youth employment project. She holds a BS degree in Business Administration with post graduate studies in Human Resource Development. Erielba participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program of the State Department in 2015 that focused on workforce development through community colleges.
Currently the Chief of Party for the Baseball Cares project, Esther has worked in leadership positions for Entrena projects since 2004. From 2012 through 2016, she was the Educational Specialist for the Alerta Joven project implementing accelerated learning models in school retention and re-insertion. From 2004 to 2012, Esther was a lead Entrena trainer for educational initiatives designed to eliminate the worst forms of child labor, both in the DR and internationally. Esther holds a Master’s degree in Educational Planning and Management and is a certified trainer for the Quantum Learning methodology and the CICATELLI Motivational Interviewing program for at-risk youth.
Fabiana oversees all financial management of Entrena and holds a degree in Accounting and Auditing from the UNPHU University in Santo Domingo. All budgets are reviewed and approved by Fabiana, and she assumes leadership roles for all external auditing. Fabiana has managed the finances for projects with international organizations such as Peace Corps, USAID, USDOL, UNCHR, US universities, and NGOs. She has received advanced training in USAID management and financial requirements in both Colombia and the Dominican Republic. She has also supervised a total of 10 external program audits requested by international organizations funding our programs.
Francis oversees programs operations and activities related to language training and study abroad programs. Specific tasks include pre-program research, budgeting, training of host families, selection of training sites throughout the country, participant evaluation, and quality control to make sure participants needs are fully met. Francis is one of the veterans of Entrena, with over 25 years of experience and the unique ability to fine tune all activities and services to our clients’ satisfaction. She holds a degree in Modern Languages from Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago in Santo Domingo.
Juan manages the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) department of the Alerta Joven project. He oversees the quality control of the Entrena web based tracking system, the correct and timely insertion data from partner organization, relevance and importance of all indicators, and manages the staff team responsible for interpretation of all data. Prior to joining Entrena in 2017, Juan worked for Children International for 10 years as Project Coordinator implementing M&E systems for vulnerable children and adolescents.
Maria Luz is the Financial Manager of the Alerta Joven project since 2015 responsible for the oversight of a $22,000,000 budget, including all financial reports, budget management, acquisition processes, application of internal polices and supervision of all eternal audits. Prior to joining Entrena, Maria Luz worked with World Vision International as Financial Director and with the Dominican government as Financial Manager of the DR Center for Promotion and Foreign Investment and as an auditor for the General Controller. Maria Luz holds a Master’s degree in Advanced Level Financial Management and has received additional USAID training in Management of US government funded projects.
Mirla is the Communications Specialist of Entrena responsible for the branding, marking, and public messaging of the company and its projects including internationally funded initiatives such as Alerta Joven and Baseball Cares, as well as in-house products such as Quantum Learning, and Espacios para Crecer. Responsibilities include all social media, websites, press releases, success stories, and press cultivation and coverage. Mirla has a Master’s degree in Corporate Communications and Digital Marketing.
Oksanna provides program and administrative support for all Entrena programs. Starting in 2012 with Alerta Joven project, she now works with all program areas assuring quality and accuracy in areas of finance, administration, and services to the client. Her experience in marketing and early childhood education give her a unique insight into the social development programs of Entrena. She holds a degree in Marketing from the UASD University in Santo Domingo.
With over 15 years experience working with both national and international non profit organizations, Rafael dedicates his time at Entrena to managing all sub awards for Alerta Joven, through side by side follow up with implementing partners. He has a Master's Degree in Accounting, and extensive experience in social development project management, financial audit, budget, financial monitoring, and administration.
Sheyla started as a facilitator for Quantum Learning with the Alerta Joven project in 2015, and has since continued to offer her creative skills and passion for education in both the Alerta Joven and Baseball Cares projects. With a degree in Hotel Management, Sheyla manages the Baseball Cares bilingual social media platforms, website, newsletter publications, and quarterly and yearly reports, documenting events, activities, and success stories with photography and interviews.
Yvelisse has worked with Entrena in the Alerta Joven project since 2012. As principal technical program specialist of the project, Yvelisse plays a lead role in the institutional strengthening of all participating NGOs and monitors the technical performance of their sub awards. Prior to joining Entrena, Ivelisse worked with international and Dominican NGOs focused on vulnerable women, at risk adolescents and children, human trafficking, and gender violence. She holds BA degrees in social work and has over 8 years of experience in public school teaching.
